The next day, Flores Ramirez’s body was found in van der Sloot’s hotel room. She had been beaten and strangled.
Van der Sloot was arrested and charged with Flores Ramirez’s murder. In 2012, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 28 years in prison. He is currently serving his sentence in a Peruvian prison.
