The New York Knicks are one of the most iconic basketball teams in the NBA. The team has a rich history of success, heartbreak, and memorable moments that have made them a fan favorite for generations. From legendary players to unforgettable games, let’s take a trip down memory lane and relive some of the Knicks’ most memorable moments.

The Birth of the Knicks

The New York Knicks were founded in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The team was originally called the New York Knickerbockers, a reference to the Dutch settlers who first arrived in New York City, and played their home games at Madison Square Garden.

Willis Reed’s Heroic Game 7

The 1970 NBA Finals saw the Knicks face off against the Los Angeles Lakers. In Game 5, Knicks captain Willis Reed suffered a torn thigh muscle and was ruled out for the rest of the series. However, in Game 7, Reed shocked everyone by limping onto the court during warmups. He proceeded to score the first two baskets of the game and inspired his team to victory, earning himself the Finals MVP award.

Patrick Ewing’s Dominant Game 7

In the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks faced off against the Indiana Pacers. In Game 7, Patrick Ewing put on a dominant performance, scoring 24 points and grabbing 22 rebounds to lead the Knicks to victory and their first NBA Finals appearance in 21 years.

The 4-Point Play

The 1999 Eastern Conference Finals saw the Knicks take on the Indiana Pacers once again. In Game 6, with the Knicks down by three points with just seconds left on the clock, Allan Houston hit a clutch three-pointer while being fouled. He proceeded to sink the free throw, completing the 4-point play and sending the Knicks to the NBA Finals.

Linsanity

In 2012, the Knicks were struggling and in need of a spark. Enter Jeremy Lin, a relatively unknown point guard who had bounced around the league and was on the verge of being cut. Lin burst onto the scene, scoring 136 points in his first five starts and igniting a phenomenon known as “Linsanity.” The Knicks went on a winning streak and Lin became a household name, inspiring fans around the world.

Melo’s 62-Point Game

In 2014, Carmelo Anthony put on a scoring clinic against the Charlotte Bobcats, scoring a franchise-record 62 points in just 39 minutes. Melo made 23 of his 35 shots and set a new Madison Square Garden record, becoming only the 6th player in NBA history to score 60 or more points in a game.
