Bailey Ober is a name that every woman’s basketball fan should know. She is a rising star in the world of basketball and has already made a name for herself as an incredible player.
Early Life and Education
Bailey Ober was born on October 14, 1999, in Waukee, Iowa. She grew up in a family of athletes and was introduced to basketball at a young age. Her parents, Todd and Lisa Ober, both played college basketball, and her older brother, Ryan, played college baseball.
Ober attended Waukee High School, where she played basketball for four years. During her senior year, she led her team to a 5A state championship and was named the state’s player of the year.
After graduating from Waukee High School, Ober decided to continue her basketball career at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She was heavily recruited by several schools but ultimately chose Drake because of its strong basketball program and academic reputation.
Ober’s college career got off to a strong start during her freshman year. She played in all 31 games and started in 18 of them. She averaged 7.2 points per game and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team.
In her sophomore year, Ober’s game continued to improve. She started in all 31 games and led the team in scoring with an average of 16.5 points per game. She was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and was also named to the All-MVC First Team.
Ober’s junior year was unfortunately cut short due to a season-ending injury. She played in only eight games but still managed to average 13.6 points per game and was named to the All-MVC Second Team.
Despite the setback, Ober bounced back strong in her senior year. She started in all 25 games and led the team in scoring with an average of 21.9 points per game. She was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second time and was also named to the All-MVC First Team.
After graduating from Drake University, Ober declared for the 2021 WNBA draft. She was selected by the Dallas Wings in the third round, making her the 35th overall pick.
Ober played in the Wings’ preseason games but was ultimately waived before the start of the regular season. However, she didn’t let that setback stop her from pursuing her dream of playing professional basketball.
In August 2021, Ober signed a contract to play for the Townsville Fire in the Australian Women’s National Basketball League. She is excited to continue her basketball career and hopes to one day make it to the WNBA.
Off the court, Ober enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is also an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoys watching their football and basketball games.
Ober is also passionate about giving back to her community. During her time at Drake University, she volunteered at a local elementary school and helped mentor young students.
