Early Life and Basketball Career
Lonnie Walker IV was born on December 14, 1998, in Reading, Pennsylvania. He grew up in a rough neighborhood and had to face many challenges growing up. However, basketball was always a constant in his life, and he began playing at a young age. Walker attended Reading High School, where he played for the basketball team and quickly gained a reputation as one of the best players in the area.
During his junior year, Walker led his team to the Pennsylvania state championship and was named the state’s player of the year. Walker continued to improve in his sophomore year, averaging 16.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He was named to the All-ACC Third Team and helped the Hurricanes reach the NIT Tournament. After the season, Walker decided to declare for the NBA draft.
Walker was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 18th overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He struggled in his rookie year, averaging just 2.6 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in limited playing time. However, he showed flashes of potential, including a 16-point performance in a win over the Denver Nuggets.
During the 2019-20 season, Walker began to establish himself as a key player for the Spurs. He started 12 out of 61 games and averaged 6.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He also showed off his athleticism with several highlight-reel dunks.
As of the 2020-21 season, Walker is continuing to improve and establish himself as a rising star in the NBA. He has already had several impressive performances, including a 25-point game against the Houston Rockets and a 24-point game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
