Jalen Brunson is a point guard for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA. He was born on August 31, 1996, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Brunson played college basketball at Villanova University, where he won two NCAA championships.
Brunson played for the Villanova Wildcats from 2015 to 2018. In his freshman year, he was a key contributor to the team that won the NCAA championship. He averaged 9.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game that season.
In his sophomore year, Brunson’s stats improved as he became the starting point guard. He averaged 14.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Villanova once again won the NCAA championship that year.
Brunson’s junior year was his best statistically. He averaged 18.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. He was named the Big East Player of the Year and won the Bob Cousy Award, given to the best point guard in college basketball.
Brunson was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the 2018 NBA draft. In his rookie season, he played in 73 games and started in 38 of them. He averaged 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
Brunson’s second season saw an increase in his playing time and production. He played in 57 games and started in 16 of them. He averaged 8.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
During the 2020-21 NBA season, Brunson continued to improve and established himself as a key player for the Mavericks. He played in all 72 games and started in 16 of them. He averaged 12.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He also had a career-high 31 points in a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 24, 2021.
