Early Life and Career
Cameron Payne went to Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tennessee, where he played basketball for the school team. During his senior year, he averaged 23.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game and was named the Division II-A Mr. Basketball in Tennessee.
After graduating from high school, Cameron Payne enrolled at Murray State University in Kentucky. He played college basketball for the Murray State Racers and was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2015.
Cameron Payne declared for the NBA draft in 2015 and was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 14th overall pick. He signed a rookie contract with the Thunder and played for them for two seasons.
